Solstice Raft-up

The moral of the story is… if you go overboard, make sure you have a good PFD and 3 days provisions.
Haleakala and Jolly Mon braved the fog to celebrate the summer solstice yesterday. Halie would occasionally disappear into the fog as she moved out toward the JI. In a short time, however the sun would break through for short bursts kicking up the wind making for a spirited sail.
As Jolly Mon moved away we noticed Halie was in trouble. She was floundering in circles with sails flapping in all directions. We turned to see what was wrong and lend a hand, only to discover a pillow had accidentally blown off the deck, and they were trying to retrieve it.
Recognizing the opportunity to win the “Clean the Sea” contest the competition was on, two boats chasing one pillow in the water. Jolly had it “on” the net (too big to go in) only to lose it as they tried to get it a board.
By shear intimidation Halie eventually managed to corner it and get it on board. It appears we could both stand a bit more practice.
Then, it was off to the raft-up.
Thank you Mike and Ellen for being the flagship. Thank you Mary Ann, John and Pat, John and Barbara, Charlie, Tom, Jeremy, CJ, Kimball, Bob T and Sasha, and all your guests for coming. I always find it a great way to get to know our members better.
Happy Birthday one more time Sasha!

Even with rain and clouds it was a beautiful day enjoying a sail with dear friends. It turned out to be a 3 boat race, a 2-3 start past the JI to an anchored freighter and back to the 1-2. See the results below.

Congratulation Perigee and crew on a good opening race!

Can anyone recommend a yard/rigger on the North Shore?

Hi everyone, Mary Elizabeth is in Oyster Bay now, and is experiencing severe problems with her headsail furling and halyard systems.  Does anyone know:

·        If Oyster Bay Marine Center is [trustworthy/a good option] for diagnosis and repair/replacement?

·        If there are better alternatives within a day’s motoring distance?  I called Coneys, but they won’t be able to get to it for a month or more.

·        If I need to replace the furler, whose products are the best choice?
