Supervisor Clavin, Town Board to Host Annual Independence Drive-In Concert and Fireworks Show

Kick off Summer with LI’s Own Mike DelGuidice & Big Shot,

A Spectacular Fireworks Display and Salute to Heroes

With the summer season just around the corner, Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin and the Town Board announced the township’s annual Independence Day celebration will be held at Town Park Point Lookout on June 27th at 7:30 p.m. The annual Independence Day celebration, will be a “drive-in” event with fireworks and a concert headlined by popular local music talent, Mike DelGuidice & Big Shot. The event kicks off with a special ceremony to honor Hempstead Town’s most heroic residents – the annual “Salute to Veterans” and a special recognition for COVID-19 frontline workers. The rain date for this event is scheduled for Sunday, June 28th at 7:30 p.m.

“The Town of Hempstead’s Independence Day celebration has always been a cherished event that many residents look forward to as they gear up for the summer season,” noted Supervisor Clavin.  “I am excited to host this reimagined ceremony while also recognizing our Hempstead Town neighbors who fought to keep us safe and worked to keep us healthy – our community’s veterans and healthcare heroes.”

The reimagined festivities, altered from previous years in light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, will be limited to Town of Hempstead residents only on a first-come, first served basis. This year’s media sponsor is KJOY 98.3, and the fireworks show will be presented by Special FX Wizard.

Attendees are asked to remain in their vehicles and to enjoy the drive-in accessible celebration from the comfort of their car, truck or SUV. Residents will not be permitted to sit or stand outside of their vehicle during the concert. This new policy, based on the guidance of public health experts, will ensure those enjoying the celebration are able to maintain safe social distancing.

I am working to get sponsors to donate to the TLC through our website. I need to demonstrate that we have a certain level of member traffic.
Please respond to let me know you are receiving alerts. If I don’t hear from you, I will track you down 🙂

If you have sponsors that want to make a donation, we can put their logo on our site with a link to their page.

One last note, the online apparel store is open. If you want to deal directly with the vendor, you can visit their Wantagh store and place your order there. Be sure to say you are a PLYC member.

Hola Members,

It’s time to look forward to our first flotilla to the east.

I want to thank Kat, and the contributing members who took the initiative to begin planning our trips.

Putting together an event schedule for this season has been nothing but a series of unknown options. So we filled in a couple weeks with excursions. The idea was to align our travel with hopes we could go on the same days, taking care to look after each other or meeting up to enjoy each others’ company.

In our call last night, the idea took a step further, where members requested a method of posting travel dates on a shared calendar to let each other know when they plan to go. I also encourage non-members with accounts to make us aware of events in which we may participate.

That new feature has been added.

To create an events post: Login to the site and look on the top of the screen for “events,” choose add and follow the prompts. Only a minimal amount of information is needed, and there is no problem with creating multiple events on the same day. Multi-day events are also supported.

To see the calendar:

Select the 2020- Event schedule from the main menu. Click on the multicolored “Activity Calendar” and you will be taken to the new page. You have the option of looking at a list, a day or even a whole month.

This feature brings with it some responsibility. Please keep it up to date. If you change plans you should delete your own entries.

REMINDER:

To post, or comment on a post you must have a registered email address. If you send an email to members@pointlookoutyc.com to be posted, the sending mailbox must match the registered address of your user account.

Finally, if members feel uncomfortable about posting their travel plans, we can set the events page to be viewed by members only. This is an all or nothing at all switch, so if most of us feel it will more frequently used when protected from public view, we’ll do that.

Thank you Race Commodore for posting the Sore Thumb access information (see below).

I will be sailing on Sunday. I hope see you and some wild life.

Have a great Summer Solstice! Too bad raft-ups are currently not permitted.

Ahoy PLYC!
After a great weekend with the blessing of the fleet Imported Greek-Canadian holy water and an awesome shakedown race… Aka the Covid 19 Race 2020.

We have finally started the season. A great race with Legatto winning the race but was given a run for their money by Perigee seconds behind.
A great day on the water.

You may have just received and email with an invitation to a zoom meeting. We are going to discuss our long distance flotilla events with tentative destinations Such as Atlantic Highlands, Sore Thumb, Sheepshead bay, Brooklyn And more.  We would like to coordinate who would is interested in participating and on which dates. We will provide information for moorings and/or anchoring and /or docking.

Blessing Prayer from Saturday

Heavenly Father:

We pray to you for us, and our families on your beautiful seas, that you will embrace us with your mighty protection and grant us success in all our adventures and undertakings.

Grant us enjoyment of the gifts endowed upon us, and the pleasure of sharing enjoyment of the sea with our fellow seamen. And, remind us often that their care is in our hands.

Grant us in hours of need to see that we have a God who remembers us, and grant us grace in hours of danger to commit our souls into your hands.

0 Lord, who can rebuke storms and bring them to silence, and lay the roaring waves to rest; show us, who call to you that you hear our prayer and will save us.

Finally, please bless the vessels that carry us to adventure and bring us all to safe harbor.

Amen.
