Think Pink

The weather, wind and tide look great for tomorrow. It’s a fantastic opportunity to put the ladies to the test! They will have a short triangle course with two laps that will surely test their tacking skills. The guys will be down below testing their bartending skills and sampling as necessary. To make things a little more exciting bring your water canons, but save them for the finish line! Remember, pink clothes, pink food and pink drinks!

Have fun and stay safe.

Saturday we will be having our annual hot August “Dog Days Regatta,” and as in the past, it will be somewhat slow challenging battle with 8 mph winds.

If captains would like to repeat the rolling start (pursuit) strategy again, please register to insure your boat is in the starting order, and include your PHRF in case I don’t already have it. We will calculate the start times in advance to be ready for Saturday morning.

Our Race Commodore will be sending a “notice of race” sometime before with the course and start times. Be sure to know your start time before you get to the line.

It’s time to look forward to our first flotilla to the east.

I want to thank Kat, and the contributing members who took the initiative to begin planning our trips.

Putting together an event schedule for this season has been nothing but a series of unknown options. So we filled in a couple weeks with excursions. The idea was to align our travel with hopes we could go on the same days, taking care to look after each other or meeting up to enjoy each others’ company.

In our call last night, the idea took a step further, where members requested a method of posting travel dates on a shared calendar to let each other know when they plan to go. I also encourage non-members with accounts to make us aware of events in which we may participate.

That new feature has been added.

To create an events post: Login to the site and look on the top of the screen for “events,” choose add and follow the prompts. Only a minimal amount of information is needed, and there is no problem with creating multiple events on the same day. Multi-day events are also supported.

To see the calendar:

Select the 2020- Event schedule from the main menu. Click on the multicolored “Activity Calendar” and you will be taken to the new page. You have the option of looking at a list, a day or even a whole month.

This feature brings with it some responsibility. Please keep it up to date. If you change plans you should delete your own entries.

REMINDER:

To post, or comment on a post you must have a registered email address. If you send an email to members@pointlookoutyc.com to be posted, the sending mailbox must match the registered address of your user account.

Finally, if members feel uncomfortable about posting their travel plans, we can set the events page to be viewed by members only. This is an all or nothing at all switch, so if most of us feel it will more frequently used when protected from public view, we’ll do that.

Thank you Race Commodore for posting the Sore Thumb access information (see below).

I will be sailing on Sunday. I hope see you and some wild life.

Have a great Summer Solstice! Too bad raft-ups are currently not permitted.

Blessing Prayer from Saturday

Heavenly Father:

We pray to you for us, and our families on your beautiful seas, that you will embrace us with your mighty protection and grant us success in all our adventures and undertakings.

Grant us enjoyment of the gifts endowed upon us, and the pleasure of sharing enjoyment of the sea with our fellow seamen. And, remind us often that their care is in our hands.

Grant us in hours of need to see that we have a God who remembers us, and grant us grace in hours of danger to commit our souls into your hands.

0 Lord, who can rebuke storms and bring them to silence, and lay the roaring waves to rest; show us, who call to you that you hear our prayer and will save us.

Finally, please bless the vessels that carry us to adventure and bring us all to safe harbor.

Amen.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS

It’s time for an election!

The bylaws of the Point Lookout Yacht Club require the executive board to provide for nominations and elections of new members to the executive board every three years.

There are no specific rules as to who can run or hold office. All current club members are eligible.  A current executive member may be re-elected to the same or a different office without restrictions.

The executive positions listed below are open for nominations. Combined nominations for a Commodore/Vice Commodore team are acceptable.

Nominees have the option to decline their nomination prior to the election, but all nominees that remain in the running will be included in the election process.

Multiple nominations for the same individual or team unopposed may be accepted as an election, and be installed into office with the approval of the current executive board.

Nominees shall be submitted using the “members@pointlookoutyc.com” email address, which will be displayed on the member forum page of the website. If needed elections will be handled electronically, but voters’ selections will not be identified publicly, only the final results.

The nomination period will open today, March 14th, and run to the last day of the month March 31st. At the close of the nomination period, unmatched nominees for commodore will choose a running mate for vice commodore.

The nominees for each office will be published, along with the commodore/vice commodore teams. An election period will open shortly after, lasting 5 days. The list of nominees will be available on the website with selection boxes for each. It is permissible for a nominee for commodore to also be a nominee for vice commodore selected by the commodore nominee (e.g. Nom-A chooses  Nom-B, and Non-B chooses Nom-A).

Members must be logged in to vote, and may do so up until the election period closes on April 5th, 2019

Please begin sending your nominations at once. And, feel free to nominate yourself and a partner if you like.

Open positions:

Commodore / Vice commodore

Social Affairs Commodore

Secretary

Technology Commodore (Tentative – responsible for website maintenance and marine product and procedure research) this new position has not yet been approved, and will require approval of the executive board.

Scroll done and enter your request.

By the way. The traffic on the website has gone through the roof. We now have something we can pitch to more sponsors! This is a great opportunity for  us to do more for our charities.

Thank you for your participation.

Let’s look forward to a HOT, COMPETITIVE, summer.
