G’day Members,

The time has come to refresh the executive team by nominating and electing some new officers. I am very pleased to announce several candidates have expressed their interest and have been endorsed. However, this opportunity is still open to others who would like to be nominated and run. You can do so by submitting your nominations to: members@pointlookoutyc.com . If no additional candidates are submitted, a vote by a show of hands will be ruled as acceptance of the following officers.

Votes must be emailed to our club Secretary Jan Heinlein by Wednesday, March 10th.

The following candidates have been nominated and endorsed:

For the position of Commodore:      Katerina Xenos

For the position of Vice Commodore:          Paul Sanpaolo

Social Affairs Commodore will be co-chaired by: Ellen Coyle & Sasha Todaro.

The positions of Treasurer and Race Commodore will remain the same, chaired by

John Bono and Bob Toraro.

Please take time to vote promptly, and give a warm welcome to our nominees.

Thank you all for making my participation a wonderful experience, and most importantly thank you all for your generosity and initiative fund raising for the TLC during a difficult season. I am proud to say you exceeded several previous years’ donations.

Dear Members,

I had a very enjoyable summer and I hope you feel the same way, In spite of the situation with covid.

We had some new members join our ranks. We had our usual compliment of races with some new twists of rules and scoring, introducing the handicapped start that ended in some exciting finishes. We had a Pink Race that challenged the skills of all-women crews. We introduced kayak races that were so much fun people are looking forward to next year.

We traveled. We saw lots of wildlife, getting some spectacular pictures of whales, not to mention videos.

We ate, we drank, and we took care of each other respecting rules of touching all the while wishing for our familiar club hugs.

For the most part, we are healthy. But, we need to sacrifice a little longer to be sure we remain that way to be ready for a fresh new season in the spring, finding new, innovative ways to have fun.

We pulled together as a team to raise over $7,000 for our treasured Toy Lending Center (without the party!).  That is a fantastic show of support and extremely important as charitable funds have been spread thin due to the pandemic.

Thank you all for your time, contributions and begging to make the campaign successful.

I want to extend a special thanks to the executive team and Vicky for their management of contributions and drive for donations.

Tomorrow, I welcome everyone to join the executive team when we present the proceeds of our work to Coleen of the TLC. I suggest sometime around 1:00PM.

Safety needs to be our highest priority, even though I tend to be a bit cavalier about my own. For this reason, I can’t see having any indoor gatherings until spring, when hopefully the situation has changed a bit. In the spirit of looking forward to better times, I propose we begin planning for next year via zoom to make it better than any previous one.

Let’s all enjoy the rest of this season, maybe plan to safely meet over the winter and look forward to a blow-out 2021.

On behalf of the executive team, Mary Ann, John, Bobby, Kat and Jan, thank you all for a wonderful season.

~Rob

Thank you and Happy Birthday Kimball, and thank you to CJ for graciously hosting our season closing party. Kat, thank you for managing the attendance and food.

To all our members, thank you for a great season in a difficult time, and for all your donations to the Toy Lending Center.  Please remember that you can communicate with the whole club simply by sending an email to: members@pointlookoutyc.com

Also, this year is a club election year. All board member positions are up for election. Please throw your hat in the ring for the position of your choice by sending an email to members. The positions of commodore and vise commodore need to be filled as a pair. So, choose your running mate and put your names in. Past board members are alway available to support you, and it is a great opportunity to introduce and implement fresh new ideas. Once the names are in, we will put them out for a vote of the general membership.

One more congratulations to the Perigee team for their Commodore Cup win. The actual results are listed below using time-on-time scoring. While T-on-T does not change the results, it is a little more flattering to the chasing boats. 🙂 The time on the left is the actual finish with the first boat setting the base. The times on the right are PHRF adjusted times following the base.

Be safe and communicate often.
Love to all,
~Rob

Boats leave the East Marina at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning and meet in front of the Ocean Club. If you are crewing, be early.
Be ready to cross the starting line on or after your start time.  There are start times as little as 6 seconds a part. All sailboat racing rules apply, including right’s of way, jumping the gun and touching a mark.

Dave Williams will be announcing the start times on VHF channel 72. He will synchronize his time with yours 10 minutes before the first start to insure each boat goes out on time.

If anything changes, I will let you know using this mailing list. If nothing changes there will be no further communication other than announcements on VHF 72.

Share your background. If you have interesting information about your boat or past experience (past wins, boat name stories, etc.) please email them to Noreen noreenlaw@aol.com so she can spice up the commentary for the spectators.

Send your comments and feedback to members@pointlookoutyc.com

Good luck,
~Rob
