Independence Day Celebration

Ahoy Members,

The fourth of July is a couple days away. Several of our members will be off to the Atlantic Highlands, others will be celebrating with family and friends.

For those of you with no specific plans, the Jones Beach fireworks show will take at place the central mall on the beach. The exciting part is- the show is spectacular from the water.

A couple of years back the ocean was flat as a pond with not a breath of wind. The fireworks reflected off the water as the boats softly drifted in the view. This year the weather report is predicting 6 mph winds with a 2 ft gently rolling sea. While not exactly the same, it should be a perfect night to watch the show from the water.

I would be interested to know how many captains are interested in joining a flotilla to the beach. And, for those members without other plans, the more the merrier.

Saturday: Stars & Stripes

Ahoy Members,

Saturday is the Stars & Stripes Regatta, and the Fireworks display in the evening.

I would like to put a scratch sheet together in advance.

Can I get a show of skippers’ hands who will be racing?

The tide for the day will be dead low shortly after 11:00AM. I think we will be grounded until at least 12:30. On the bright side it appears there will be a super-high around 5:30.

Winds will be breezy at 11 to 14 mph and out of the west.  The sea will be calm at 2 feet.

Keep in mind potential parking issues it you have friends joining you for the fireworks.

Hope to see you all then.

Have a good week.

I added a page to the website where you can send your donations for raffle tickets. You can also encourage potential contributors to give to our fund raising campaign.

If you know a vendor who would like to advertise on our site for the season (3 months) we will put their logo and a link to their site on a select page on the site. Send me their contact information, and  I will send pricing information.

Thanks,

Welcome to Summer

Good Morning Members,

I hope you are enjoying this second full day of sunshine, and second full day of summer.

As much as I would like time to slow down, it only seems to go even faster. So, I am passing along this reminder that the Toy Lending Center Event will be here in three weeks.

I am including two letters to make the job of collecting donations easier. One is a request letter with some information about the Toy Lending Center. The second is a “thank you” note you can fill in at the time of the donation that will act as a receipt.

As always, all gifts are welcome. Gift cards, coupons for free services and anything that will help fill baskets are all valuable items, not to mention bottles of wine.

The TLC not only provides valuable training to children, it provides some welcome relief from overwhelming responsibilities for the parents. Your work means more than you may think.

Thank you for your contribution of time.

Sincerely,

Rob

Saturday Revised Plans

Ahoy Members,

The winds and tide are favorable for a race to the ER, and hopefully some whale watching, However, they are a little high for a comfortable raft-up, 16 mph. We are also waiting for several boats to come home to Point Lookout making a blessing and renaming ceremony a little absurd. So here it is the plan for this weekend:

We postpone the blessing and naming ceremony
Have a captain’s meeting at 10:30
Race to the ER
Cocktails on the dock right after
And, it someone has a TV set, and we make it back by 5:00 PM we can watch the Sail GP Races in NYC

Can we get a show of hands for those who plan to sail?

Thank you,

See you Saturday.
