PLYC Meeting Tomorrow CANCELED

Due to several conflicts in schedules I need to cancel tomorrow’s meeting. We can provide an update and address new business at the captains’ meeting on Saturday morning before the Dark & Stormy Regatta.

I truly hope to see everyone on Saturday. It should be a spirited race as winds pickup in the afternoon to 18MPH. Waves will be comfortably small at less than 4ft.

Enjoy the rest of the week. See you Saturday,

~Rob

Skippers’ Brunch

Yesterday was our second event of the 2019 season, the Skippers’ Brunch.

I really want to congratulate my executive team for an outstanding job, and a fantastic selection of dishes. Special thanks to Kat, our Social Affairs Commodore, Mary Ann, Vice Commodore and John Bono, Treasurer, for their contributions of food, time and bubbly.

I also want to thank Jan, our PLYC Secretary for all the work put into preparing for our Toy Lending Center event on July 13th.  She handled every task on her own, from printing to assembling ticket books. Let’s all show her our appreciation by attaining our goal of $7,500.

Thank you members, for your warm welcome and purchases of our special guest Chaz Loyola and his Mariner’s Cookbook. I know the sample I tasted was mouthwatering. I am looking forward trying out many of the other recipes.

Next week is our Dark & Stormy Race Series. I know that our Race Commodore, Bob T. has some creative ideas for making the day an exciting one. I just hope the sea cooperates and is a little less challenging than yesterday.

Finally, there is a general membership meeting scheduled for Wednesday. I will send an update as to the location before then.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and see you next week.

~Rob

I want to thank everyone for the wonderful reception at the dock last night. It was very thoughtful and much appreciated.

We are looking forward to welcoming the rest of the new arrivals over the coming weeks, and hope that everyone will attend the renaming and blessing of all the new arrivals on the summer Sailstice raft-up on the 22nd.

Don’t forget tomorrow is the Skippers’ Breakfast. It will be an opportunity for newcomers to meet the club and for each of us to rekindle friendships.

See you tomorrow.

And, Thank you,

Rob and Jayne

PLYC Meeting

Good morning Members,

I am guessing we are all anxious to get the season started, and excited about having several new boats join the fleet. The preparation involved in getting them ready for the season seems a little overwhelming at times. However, I think we are all getting close, and hopefully will be ready by June.

Our first schedule meeting is tomorrow night at 7:30. Unfortunately, our normal meeting place (The Fishermen’s Catch) is not yet open on Wednesdays. So, we are scrambling a bit for an alternate location.

As soon as we have a location confirmed, I will post the address on pointlookoutyc.com. I apologize for the last-minute scramble.

The meeting meeting itself will be somewhat informal to start. We will discuss the summer schedule and get some feedback on the “trip-weekends” and destinations. We can start planning for our annual fundraiser and maybe come up with some new methods of meeting our goal.

I would like to discuss plans for our first event, the Blessing of the Fleet, and hear your ideas about refreshing some of the legacy events. We can also take this opportunity to talk about some new race strategies.

I will follow-up shortly. I hopefully we will see you all tomorrow.

Thank you,

Rob

Fwd: Sailors NYC activities

0
0
Good Morning Sailors,

Here are some activities available to us in the coming months. Consider the 4th of July excursion to NYC. There are a couple of places to have a party.
I will be looking into more inter-club activities in our area. Feel free to reach out to sailors who might be interested in participating in our activities, including a small-boat racing division.

More to come…

Hi Rob,

Pleasure speaking with you yesterday!

As mentioned, we are docking at Liberty Harbor Marina in Jersey City on B Dock.

Here is a list of events I thought we could link the clubs:
  • June 1-2 – Weekend Cruise – I checked the tides – and it is possible to sail south of Verrazano. I’ll let you know if we decide to sail to your area.
  • July 4th – we have our traditional 4th of July BBQ at the dock starting at 2-3pm followed by a sail at dusk and viewing of the 4th of July fireworks from the water
  • July 20-21 – Weekend Cruise – destination – TBD
  • August 10-11 – Weekend Cruise – most likely to Atlantic Highlands – we can meet there!
  • October 12-14 – Columbus day weekend cruise – 2 nights – destination – TBD

As for racing – we are planning to participate in the following races:
  • Around Long Island Regatta – July 25-28
  • Liberty Cup – in the New York Harbor September 14-15
  • NYC to Montauk – September 20-21

I’ll make the introductions to David Spence and Moochie of Liberty Yacht Club who are organizing the Liberty Cup and the NYC to Montauk race so that they will keep you in the loop.

Cheers for a great season!

PLYC Summer Event Schedule

Good morning Members,

The PLYC summer event schedule has been posted to our website. Coming up fast is our annual kickoff party. Please see the link to the invitation to get signed up: https://pointlookoutyc.com/member-resources/

Details about each event will be made available at member meetings, as well as being posted on the website shortly before each event under the “Race info” heading.

Our treasured Toy Lending Center does amazing work providing direction and activities to severely handicapped children. Almost as importantly, Coleen provides some relief to the parents whose lives have become dedicated to their children’s care, sadly a task from which there is no vacation.

Our donations are almost a requirement of the TLC’’s existence. To qualify for grant money, the TLC must demonstrate their ability to raise money on their own. This is a prime reason why our fund drive is so important. What’s more, unlike fund-rasing companies that charge as much as 80% of the funds they collect, 100% percent of the money we collect goes directly to the Toy Lending Center. In addition, you should know that they gladly accept working, hand-held electronic toys. These toys are entertaining while being more easily manipulated by children with limited dexterity.

This year, I would like to up the anti a little. First, if you know of a business that might like to advertise on our website for the season (including a link to their site) we can do it for a significant donation. I also plan to provide a link to PayPal, specifically for donating to the TLC. And, of course we will have our annual raffle at the Buoy Bar. Keep in mind, web traffic is a determinant of the website’s value. It is important that you visit often and post interesting information and your comments to drive more traffic.

I would like our like to set our season goal to $7,500. This is only a little more than we have collected in the recent past, and I don’t mind if we blow away the number!

Thank you for support.
Let’s look forward to a safe and enjoyable season.

Sincerely,

~Rob
