Ahoy PLYC!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful evening and stating super cool.
The PLYC membership meeting is tomorrow night at 7:30 pm at the Marina Pergola. I need everyone’s participation and attendance. We have important club matters to discuss. There has been a slight change of plans, the meeting will be a regular meeting and the International Cuisine will be saved for the Raft Up this Saturday. Everyone is welcome to bring snacks, cheese and BYOB at your pleasure to the meeting.

It turns out that this Saturday is “INTERNATIONAL TEQUILA DAY!

Therefore I thought that it would only be fit the adjust our “International Pot Luck cuisine”. Everyone can bring their signature dish from either their heritage or culture or you may also have the option to bring dishes that pair well with TEQUILA and is it so pleases to bring TEQUILA based cocktails!

We will save the great feast to enjoy as an adveturous passage from boat to boat making our fabulous memories as always!

I have been slaving away making this monster ALIR specialty in this raging heat! Phtou! phtou! Pray I don’t jinx it lol!

Look forward to see you soon!

PLYC Fourth of July Weekend & Fireworks!

Happy Fourth of July Weekend PLYC!

Monday night Jones Beach July Forth Fireworks, if Mother Nature allows us! We will leave the dock at 8:00 pm and flotilla our way out. Last year was a blast as we had a dingy raft up. I will pray and will make a special sacrifice to Poseidon for a safe voyage!

It’s been a tough start for us this year, due to the tides, inlet and weather. Sadly, we haven’t raced yet and our last flotilla was a wash too. No worries, we got a plan. Our wonderful Race Commodore Bobby T. is working on making up for it with a fun series of races, more info coming soon!

Getting out of the marina is still an ongoing dilemma. Vice Commodore Paul S. and John K. will rally on our behalf. Together, we need to step up our game in order to make change happen! We ask that everyone contribute by sending a list of anything big, small or in between, all and any issues, ideas and concerns that you have with the marina. Just respond back to this email, your recommendations are truly valued. Once the list has been complied, the next step will be to start letting Town of Hempstead know! We will apply pressure starting with the chain of command and working are way up. Johnny Bono has set up a Facebook page “Point Lookout East Marina”. We will need everyone’s help in following, liking, posting pictures and comments with our concerns on this page. We ask that you invite everyone we know to like and follow our page. Also spread the word. Exposure is key, the more traffic, the more pressure we cause and ideally see eventual results. It will take time, 100% participation with perseverance and consistency to succeed.

If you haven’t done so already, please follow up with Jan, regarding TLC. Please confirm what donations you will be providing, what shift you will be volunteering for to sell tickets in Point Lookout the weekend before July 9 and 10, volunteering to create baskets Wednesday July 13, 7:00 pm at the TLC and volunteer boats for the cruises.
Lastly what shift you will volunteer to man the tables and sell 50/50s. Who is up for the challenge to break the 50/50s record sales?

Following up Elyn’s email for the Pink Race! Kindly submit your female captain info for your boat, required Pinks hats and donations. Don’t forget to dress you and your boats in PINK!

Save the date for the PLYC Monthly Membership Meeting is on Friday July 22 at 7:30 pm in the pergola. The theme will be International cuisine, it’s a pot luck! Everyone brings a favorite dish from your heritage/culture/family history. Ideally you would cook the dish but you can cheat and buy it too. Doing what we PLYC do best, feast, talk and of course docktailing!

Past Commodore Ellen had gotten the group to attend a Jimmy Buffet Tail Gate! She inspired us again. Who is up to go to the Jimmy Buffett concert and/or Tail Gate Party Tuesday August 9? Reply back and we will follow up with more details.

We are coordinating a Block Island Flotilla Trip tentatively the starting the last week of August and the first week of September. Who’s in?

Lastly, we are starting to plan for the 2023 Sailing trip to Greece? Remember the one that got cancelled due to covid in 2020. Let me know asap!

I know it’s a lot. It’s been a challenge but we always get through the challenges with amazing memories and so much fun…even from the dock!

PS: Wishing this beautiful couple, MaryAnn and Bobby the Happiest Golden Wedding Anniversary! 50 years and going strong!

PLYC 2022 Summer Season

Dear Point Lookout Yacht Club Members and Friends,

Happy New 2022 Sailing Season! Hope everyone is safe and looking forward to a more “normal” summer. Hopeful that the worst of Covid is behind us, yet we still have to be mindful of safety first.

As the weather slowly gets warmer and a few boats have snuck into our lonely marina, with Legato leading in the first ship to home port. Followed by Haleakala 1 and my Dulcinea. It was nice to count three masts in the sky. Can’t wait for everyone else to come home.

Very exciting news! Congratulations are in order as we will be welcoming Jayne and Rob with their beautiful new Jeanneau to PLYC the fleet!

We will be faced with challenges this season with the Inlet and Marina depths and lack of dredging. Race Commodore Bobby has been working diligently on charting a map on where and how to get out of the inlet. We also have planned all the races around the tides and when the tides aren’t in our favor for a race. We focused on flotillas to destinations.

I would like to mention a special Thank You to John Kalfa who has been dedicated to the Inlet cause and working behind the scenes motivating everyone to get involved in making calls and sending letters to local government officials.

The beautiful Social Commodores have been busy working on this Season’s Kickoff Party. The theme this year is Cruise to Nowhere. When we aren’t sailing, we have fun events planned. Monthly Member meetings will be theme based. Such as a international culinary boat to boat pot luck. Pergola Salsa dancing with Mendy as our instructor. A movie night and Wednesday night Dingy Races. Doing what we do best “Docktails” especially for Thirsty Thursday’s.

The Ocean Balloon Clean up was such a great success with so many great pictures. That it is on for this year. Who will challenge last years winners Jeremy and Glo?

We kindly ask that for the PLYC Annual Kickoff Party, it is extremely important to please RSVP so we can plan and accommodate appropriately. The deadline to RSVP is April 10 – $100 per person and after it goes up to $110 per person. If you haven’t done so already, Membership dues are due as well. Both can be easily paid via Venmo or Zelle.

Greatly appreciate Jan and Johnny B that keep on supporting us behind the scenes in making it all come together.

For your convenience, enclosed is the Membership form and the 2022 Calendar. Please save the dates for all upcoming events.

Looking forward to another fabulous Summer Sailing Season!

See you soon!

Sincerely,

Commodore Katerina Xenos
