Can anyone recommend a yard/rigger on the North Shore?

Hi everyone, Mary Elizabeth is in Oyster Bay now, and is experiencing severe problems with her headsail furling and halyard systems.  Does anyone know:

·        If Oyster Bay Marine Center is [trustworthy/a good option] for diagnosis and repair/replacement?

·        If there are better alternatives within a day’s motoring distance?  I called Coneys, but they won’t be able to get to it for a month or more.

·        If I need to replace the furler, whose products are the best choice?

The Race is On!

Sunday is shaping up to be a nice day.  Winds should be kicking up and the sun will be shining with a few clouds.

It will be a great day to start the season with our first official race. The current plan is to “Bless the Fleet” and have bagels, and coffee at the captain’s meeting.

The race departure time is dictated by the tides. Our Race Commodore will provide an NOR with race start time, which may mean leaving early. As soon as we know the start time, we will set a time for the blessing and captain’s meeting.

We need everyone who plans to race to send an email to: members@pointlookoutyc.com Put your name in the subject and just send the message “yes.”

See you on Sunday!

Tribute to John J. Garrett III

In honor of our dear departed comrade John J. Garrett III, our race commodore Bob Todaro took on the task of decorating his boat with flags, and inviting club members to join him in several fly-bys of the Buoy Bar as a demonstration of our sorrow and to celebrate John’s life.

It was an exciting trip in 32 MPH winds that included an accidental jibe, but it ended safely with heartfelt discussions and toasts to his life.

I can tell you that the exercise had enormous meaning to John’s sisters, and although there is no need to thank Bob for taking on the responsibility, I can’t tell you how happy I am that you did what did.

John, we are toasting you for being you. May you rest peacefully and continue to be a reminder of a carefree spirit.

We thank you and miss you.
